The seminars took place as a side event to one of the international conferences on the GeoForAFRI programme, which, although now completed, has been extended by the OSFACO programme.
Held on January 26-28, 2016 in Abidjan, the conference was dedicated to space-based observation for the sustainable management of forests and lands in West and Central Africa.
The aims of the seminars were to present the ART approach and the potential benefits of networking the space-based observation skills centres in Côte d’Ivoire.
Two brainstorming workshops were organised, the first devoted to the possibilities of using the network to share resources and skills available in Côte d’Ivoire and the Theia.
The second focused on future opportunities for developing a project dedicated to agricultural applications.
The discussions were fed by a recent study by CIRAD on the potential and challenges of space-based observation in Africa.
